Gameplay - some observations Empty Gameplay - some observations

Post by GeordieAlfie on Wed 18 Sep 2019, 7:24 am

Well, after playing my first pre-season game against Miami, and getting a beating by the cpu, I didn't go into my week 1 game with much confidence and lost (not surprisingly). However, in fairness, I did have a couple of throws that were batted down in the endzone at the end, so maybe on another day I might have been luckier.

However, there were a few things I found odd:

1. QB completions are very high - too high in my opinion. Brees was about 8/8 or something at one point and Watson wasn't far behind. Ok, Brees is better than I am used to, but all the same, I thought the number of completions both for me and the cpu was over the top.

2. The cpu seems to do what it did in last Madden, and gives you some hope on 1st or 2nd down, but then makes miraculous completions on 3rd down.

3. Weird stuff was happening to playcalling and playbooks. My defensive playbook seemed to change in the 4th quarter - a particular formation I wanted to use had disappeared. Also, when I was trying to run the hurry up in the final 2 minutes, nothing at all was appearing as a play option and I had to press O to back out and call a play again, which of course wasted time. I realise we can't do anything about this and am hoping it's just a glitch that will get fixed in a patch soon.

4. It can be annoying at times how long it takes for the receivers' buttons to appear. They can be wide open and get your QB can't get the ball off to them and when he can, it's too late because either they become covered or you get sacked (not all the time obviously).

5. The pass rushing is ridiculous at times. In practice mode I have been getting sacked before I've even finished my drop back. Ok, Brees is 40 and not the quickest, but still....

Post by tru11 on Wed 18 Sep 2019, 7:52 am

good feedback

1 im adjusting the speedthreshold so bare with me on that 1.
70 to 75 is probably the sweet spot where we want to be.
80 is to slow leaving zones wide open and 65 probably a lil bit to fast especially with the pass rush.

2 thats just all madden, nothing to do about that lol

3 no idea, probably EA related stuff

4 this is a new mechanic.
especially if you want to go deep it takes longer which makes some sense

5 EA limited QB speed behind the LOS.
Even lamar suffers because of it.
The quickness is hidden behind the superstar gimmicks.
Adjusting the speed threshold might solve it.

The sacks i gave up against the dolphins might seem excessive but he actually made the right calls blitzing at the right time and  i might some errors in lamar speed lol
Also had quite a few PI calls go against me trying to go for picks.
Actually suprised to see it and loved it really although 1 was iffy whahaha.
No challenge possible sadly....

Looking to see more feedback.

That was the problem. I was trying to get the ball out, but the receivers' icons were not showing, and by the time they were, a) the receiver was covered and b) I got sacked.

My thoughts after first CPU game. Was a lot of broken tackles for both teams.

Passing seemed hard. Something seemed off with the speed of my players. It's like sprinting wouldn't work. Jason Witten is slow to begin with but when he was running routes, it was like he was walking.

routes now are more like a combo of  route ratings and speed.

usually only speed matterd but now even with high speed players wont get open at will anymore.

zone defense though can easily be split if the QB has a lot of time.

threshold is at 73 at the moment which is a tad faster from 80 which was at start.

65 would probably be to fast and more arcade like but observations are welcome.

personally i have a lil bit more of a sim experience playing CPU now which was not the case before in previous madden.

However, the other side or the argument is that people are losing to the cpu. Not all of us is as gifted as you or tru.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be challenged by the cpu, but we could end up with the farcical situation of multiple cpu teams in the playoffs - maybe even the super bowl.

Do we want that?

Men, I am rookie)
..but..
I'm quiet if I lose real player.. It's ok.

My first 3 games in this league... It was battles against CPU. w2, w3 and w4.. 1st half I beat this carbon sleeping monster every game!! and.. I was beaten every q3-q4. Acrobatic catches, awful d-backs drops, 3&15+ realization... CPU - biggest cheater I've seen)))

p.s. I really can to beat AI via youtube money-plays, broken mechanics etc but we are sim league))) and I don't wanna do it (it's not about pleasure)

IMHO, obvious

Couple things ,don't use pass commit unless you def know it's a pass.

Can't just pick up control and win, need a plan.
Making sure you pick right gameplay in training that week.
Getting pressure to qb.
Setting your team up ,No good BS or least very least Impact
Run game is a struggle.
Dig deep into play book. Use the right stick function to move players from slot or whatever .use motion to recognise s***
Use Mike and Double teams correctly .

which is why most blame game first before looking at person at using control

All madden hard for a reason,Learn adapt and stop using same old stuff.

BS is block shed key to run game. You can have a star name but if he only has low 70 BS your find hard to get off block.
Impact blocking is on O and D players. It's blows up blocks.
Mike new feature last year
Double team new this year to combat the X factor's .
Gameplay training been there for a while
Same with the right analog function when picking plays
Defensive assignments
Motioning players to see what coverage is your not sure .
Run game Offensively "only use sprint when no one is near you and free space or a big hole in line. "

It's all there to help.

I know some can't be arsed to learn which up to them ,imo dont complain and ruin it for rest of us by making CPU like last Madden's we have had .

Or some just don't have time ,that's ok

Yes game has its issues and pisses us of at times but again ,look at yourself first and be honest you f****d up.

Ratings play apart more then ever especially under SIM settings .

Some can take to any versions or games like duck to water, like cod few games in like I hadn't been away.

Some have to learn again due to a slight change in game or been away too long from madden .

Anyone need advice or help hit me up on pm. There loads more I can say to help but everyone different .

i find it intresting that even with the QB slider so low they still complete passes with ease.

zone defense seems to work.

basicially if you call a play on defense and change 1 or 2 assignments the game looks lost lol

like call a safety blitz but then put the blitzing safety in spy or manually run around the cpu cant seem to adjust and takes a sack .....

Had a great one against SF Cpu the other night.

Cpu 1st & goal from the 9. Sack! -10 yards.
2nd & goal from the 19. Sack! - another 10 yards.
3rd & 29 - blockers blocked for their lives, QB throws, Touchdown!

Could it be that the WR catching is too high?
I haven't found that with defense adjustments such as changing to underneath or overtop. Do you mean changing individual players' assignments? Such as putting someone into man or a different zone coverage? Doesn't seem to work if say you put your OLBs into hard flats or whatever.

I can beat all that. In my last CPU game against the Chiefs I was a score down in the 4th quarter. Threw a pass to Ebron who drew a defensive pass interference for 38 yards and when I accepted the penalty it still have the ball to KC.
Thought at first I'd pressed the decline penalty but when I checked the highlights it said 'pass interference by defence'. I even recorded it and definitely accepted it and that was pretty much game over. To top it off, KC ran in another score when I was out of timeouts and could have taken the knee.

Seems like more broken stuff from EA. Anybody notice when you go into weekly practice that the QB's head morphs through his helmet? WTF!!

Post by GeordieAlfie on Sat 19 Oct 2019, 1:22 pm

I must admit that this game has me on the verge of quitting.

I thought I had turned a corner a few weeks ago, but it proved to be a false dawn. Doesn't matter what I do or how many points I score, the cpu scores more. 219 yards rushing against me in the latest game - my defense just seemed to stand aside and let Freeman run wild. Even when I thought I had blocked up the middle, Freeman managed to get through about 8 in the box to bust off a 75 yd run for a TD. The cpu got the usual number of key 1st downs from wherever it wanted, when it wanted. Don't think it punted once the whole game.

Got to be honest, I'm sick of it.
