Week 5 Game Reports

Baltimore 16-21 Cleveland

The Browns made a last-gasp goal line stand to record their first victory of the season at FirstEnergy Stadium.

A cagey start saw both defenses dominating until Carlos Hyde, who was promoted to starting RB after some lucklustre performances from Duke Johnson, burst through the Ravens defense for a 49 yard TD. But the Ravens responded early in the second half when Lamar Jackson found old favourite Breshad Perriman who beat some panicky Browns defenders to square the game on a 22 yd catch and run.

The Browns had to punt on their next possession, but were soon celebrating a pick 6 from rookie Denzel Ward, who jumped a Jackson pass to the flats and returned the ball 21 yds to put the home team back in front. A Justin Hyde 42 yd FG narrowed the gap, but a drive constructed to see out the half culminated in a 10 yard pass from Tyrod Taylor, also making his first start to replace the disappointing Baker Mayfield, to Carlos Hyde to send Cleveland into the locker room in control.

Half: Baltimore 10-21 Cleveland

Not much to report from the 3rd quarter as defenses took over and a puntfest ensued. This all changed as Baltimore attempted to stage a late recovery and Jackson got his troops downfield and found John Brown on an 8 yard pass over the middle. The Ravens went for the 2 pt conversion but a sack on Jackson appeared to have ended their chances.

However, high drama was to follow as Antonio Callaway fumbled the kickoff return and the Ravens recovered in great starting position and with all their timeouts remaining. It looked desperate for the Browns but ultimately it came down to a 4th & goal from the 1 yd line with 8 seconds left. The Browns were expecting Jackson to try to run it in and the Ravens lined up with an empty backfield. A sack on Jackson caused a fumble and Burgess recovered to end the palpitations Coach Daawg was enduring and Taylor kneeled to end the game.
