Sorry Matty, you're wrong about this. Watch the replay again. He does move his feet - no way could he have caught that. It was a save that had to be made, because he wouldn't have known for sure whether it was going in or not and would have looked a right charlie if he'd just stood there and watched it sail into the top corner. That ball was fizzed in at considerable pace and IMO he took as many steps as he could have before making the leap.

Only just recovered from last night.

I’m not praising or slagging anybody as the whole team is busting a gut in every minute and that’s all I’ve ever asked of my teams.

I'm not saying should leave it.

I'm saying instead of tiny steps you take bigger ones and he would be in perfect spot.
It was a spectacular save, but imo would of saved a lot hassle going through our cultured ET and Pens lol

I'm also worried that yes we controlled the game.

But ...again not threatening The opponents goal.

Apart from penalty what did ospina have to do.

If ospina was even half decent he saves diet penalty..hopefully we haven't used up all out luck yet

I think you are being a bit harsh Matty. He got a hand to Dier's penalty, but it was struck well enough and consequently beat him. I agree though that I have had some bizarre conversations today with people who thought we played well and I said the same thing about what did Ospina have to do. Not a lot.

Rashford blew his chance with that weak effort when he was one-on-one when we played Belgium. But I'd have brought him on rather than Vardy, who at this level looks what he was - a Fleetwood player.

Our midfield has to do a whole lot better, as they created very little last night.

I bet you don't even know which was the most impressive.
All the same, a satisfactory outcome. Hoping the Soviets prevail tonight but it might be a step too far.

Depends where you live.
Let's hope so. I don't want to make any positive predictions, because I generally end up with egg on my face.
Both semis are too close to call, but if we did make it, then I'd prefer to face France in the final. There, I've said it, so it will probably be Belgium now.

I thought England were very impressive yesterday and the only criticism I'd have is that they didn't score more goals. Sterling will be the player who will get most heat for failing to score but he did everything else very well.

Re: World Cup

Post by GBDawg1 on Wed 18 Jul 2018, 2:48 pm

I thought it stopped being fun after 35 minutes vs Croatia. We could and should have been 3-0 up at half time and then the game would have been done and dusted.

But it wasn't.

When you reflect on the tournament, we punched above our weight. Hopefully it's something to build on, but last time we got to a semi-final in 1990, we failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup. So let's not get carried away.

Also, let's examine who we beat: Tunisia, Panama and Sweden. Sweden are an ok side, but the others are also-rans. Two losses to Belgium, one to Croatia and a draw with Colombia (ok we won a shoot out, but not the game).

Had we fallen into the other side of the draw, I suspect we'd have gone out in the Quarter Finals.

It was inevitable we would lose, once the semi was confirmed as being on ITV.

And anyone who doesn't believe in the ITV Jinx, read this:

ITV Jinx

It came home.

The love of football and the English team returned.

A special couple of weeks that will end in Maguire going to Man Utd for £65m. Hilarious considering how poor he has been in 4 man defences. Zaha and Benteke (yes, even him) have ruined him the last 4 times we played Hull and Leicester.

Whoever spends serious money on him needs to be playing 3 at the back, Leicester should sell.
