Cap Penalties

Post by fitcuk on Sat 07 Jan 2017, 6:09 pm

Can anyone tell me how cap penalties work as I have a few players on big contracts and might trade but the issue is the penalty. Do I swallow their whole remaining bonus on this years cap or does some transfer to next season?

I'm guessing some goes to next season as I have a penalty for next year already.

Does anyone know how it works please?

I believe this is how it works - someone correct me if this is wrong.
This is not how I think it works in the NFL, but how I think they have rolled it out for Madden.

In Madden, it's salary plus full bonus (if player traded or cut) = cap hit for relevant years.

So, an example would be below

Player             Rem Years       Salary     Bonus       Cap Hit     Dead Money
J Doe               2017              0.5m       1.1m        1.6m          3.8m
J Doe                   2018                  0.7m         1.1m          1.8m             2.9
J Doe                   2019                  0.72m       1.1m          1.82m          1.92

If you cut/traded him at any time the cap hit is 'outstanding bonuses + cut year salary'. So if you cut him during 2018 the cap hit for that year = 2.9m (the dead money column), which would be 1.1 + 1.1 (bonus for 2018/19) + 0.7m (that year's salary.

The bit I am unsure about is when you cop the penalty but I think it's all for the season after you cut/traded the player.

Nice one for this. That's the bit I'm worried about with the penalty as if it's not until the following year it might cripple me.
