Week 12 Reports

Post by GBDawg1 on Mon 31 Oct 2016, 10:17 pm

The Browns somehow contrived to lose a game where they dominated the first half - at one point Blake Bortles was 13/13 - and managed to take away no fewer than 5 interceptions on the day - yet still managed to blow the game when it counted.

Having taken a late 33-28 lead with about 4 minutes left to play, the Browns defense needed to step up for one final stop. Yet Eli Manning on the final Giants' drive, somehow managed to complete a 4th & 4, a 4th & 10 and a 4th & 16 to set up the game-winning run from Rashad Jennings with just 9 seconds left.

A Cody Parkey missed PAT had been in essence the difference between going to OT and defeat, but a fumble by Duke Johnson Jr at the Giants' 2, after Johnson had come in for Isaiah Crowell, who was knocked out of the game for 5 weeks, didn't help matters either. But in the end, the Browns' vanilla defense showed its weakness in being unable to stop the plays that counted.

MVP: Rashad Jennings: 2 rushing and 2 passing TDs

PHI 27 - GB 14

It Was Over When......
Fletcher Cox's third sack of the day led to a 4th and 18 situation with under 3 minutes left, the pass was batted away and the Eagles bled the clock out.

Cox march to DPOY continues, 3 sacks taking him to 19.5 for the season  Shocked  they were also clutch sacks coming in the second half as the Packers drew within 6. He also had another 2 tackle for a loss in the run game. The Packers only had 3 rushing yards for the game as the Eagles run defence was back to its previous dominating self after 2 poor games previous.

The Eagles defence was swarming Rodgers all game and the pressure led to him throwing 4 interceptions on the day. 2 of the picks were in the first quarter as Rodgers suffered a bad start to the game, however what looked like a blown coverage was punished with a long throw and YAC to cobb.....2 of the Eagles scoring drives were over 10 plays in the first half.....Nelson Aghalor scored a massive TD to put the Eagles up 13 in the 4th, this followed a clutch conversion on 3rd and 11 from Wentz to DGB to keep the drive alive

Key Stat: 56.8 passer rating. 4 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles as well as a 45% completion rate for Philip Rivers as the Houston Texans went for a 2nd game of conceding less than 10 points.

Game Ball awards:
MVP: Lamar Miller. 24 carries, 121 yards, 1 TD on the ground and 3 receptions for 12 yards and a score through the air in a key clock-killing performance.
Houston: Johnny Manziel. One intercepted pass aside, it was a near perfect performance with 2 passing touchdowns, a 119.7 rating and 3 carries for 24 yards
San Diego: Hunter Henry. 4 receptions for 68 yards and a Touchdown for the rookie TE.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Indianapolis Colts

It was all over when.....Could argue that it was all done and dusted at half time with the Steelers leading the Colts by a score of 21-0. Although Indianapolis grabbed some points late on, they were never nearer than two scores away.

Game ball....Goes to the entire Steelers defence that contributed to six Colts turnovers including four while the Colts were inside Pittsburgh territory.

Key stat.....Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of the game on Pittsburgh's first drive of the game and back up Zach Mettenberger did a great job of steering Pittsburgh to a much needed victory.

Noteworthy.....Roethlisberger's injury means he'll miss the next three weeks.....Andrew Luck posted his worst game of the season with a QB rating of 67.6 .....The Steelers face the NY Giants in week 13 while the Colts take on the NY Jets.

Final Score

Pittsburgh Steelers 27 - 15 Indianapolis Colts
