First half ref was to eager to give a foul..but come on we had man sent off deserving.

But that game was one team wanted to win and other was defending brilliantly and playing for ET possible pens.

Puncheon i said should started instead of zaha. I had him to scoring when he came on but didnt bet sadly.

So, you're saying because you had a man sent off, that "evened it up"?

More worryingly, that useless pillock is likely to be at the heart of England's defence in a few weeks.

Its a scary thought from an England point of view its terrifying that one of our best CBs is Chris Smalling .... hes a red card waiting to happen, he cant make decisions and he fills me with zero confidence

Twattenberg ruins another game, some of his calls were shocking and to think hes refereeing the biggest game in Europe next Saturday ... hes got no chance!!

On another note, FA Cup final's with pre-game shows, guess thats the end of tradition and then the national anthem singer misses the start, disgraceful stuff

You don't think so?

If the boot had been on the other foot, there would have been a public enquiry. Blind clearly didn't know the whistle had gone and he dived into the challenge. De Gea had heard it I think I think but chances are it would still have been 1-0. Then the Ward incident soon after that. No way can you say that would have been a goal, but a good chance would have been created. You'd have been hopping mad if those decisions had gone against you. But hey, it's only Palace, so no one gives a s***, do they?

Teams play to their strengths. What did you expect them to do? Play open expansive football? Take a look at how much their squad cost to assemble and compare it with yours. Nothing wrong with defending deep and hitting people on the counter. Ask your new boss.

Play till you hear whistle...rojo stopped de gea after re watch

I expected them to have a go,considering how we been this year as did most palace fans and neutral and its a final

Of course there nothing wrong with it Leicester won the league counter attacking but least the got up the pitch.

Delaney could of easily gone on another day...rooney too

How can United call anyones style of play, you are a glorified long ball team, spent the whole game trying to go long to Fellaini!!!

Mourinho isnt going to make u play 'the united way'

Re: The FA Cup Final

Post by GBDawg1 on Sun 22 May 2016, 8:38 am

I have always said Man Utd fans are a different breed. They struggle to see any wrong with their team or look at anything objectively.

"Play to the whistle" he says. Not sure what that has to do with it but I still have visions of the Keane-led angry mob constantly surrounding the referee when they didn't like a decision.

Fellaini is a dirty player and constantly gets away with elbowing game after game. And Rooney, who I have to say I was impressed with in midfield yesterday, is a sending-off waiting to happen. He gets away with it in England because of who he is: that won't be the case in the Euros.

Were Manchester United the better team yesterday? Of course they were. But that doesn't mean they deserved to win. Palace have every right to feel aggrieved.

Not sure you are going to enjoy the next few seasons then, because counter-attacking play is what your new boss is all about. Let's see whether our opinions change then, shall we?

Dawg, all you've done in this thread is berate Man Utd yet you seem to be defensive when people are defending them? You started it with the Clattenburg picture - not sure why you didn't expect a response.

Anyway now with that out of the way; thoughts on the game (from a United fan's perspective):

United were poor yet still created chances. Hit the post twice and numerous goalbound shots blocked. I think Clattenburg had a terrible game and he was intimidated by the occasion. I think the game was tight and well contested; Palace set out for the counter attack with Wickham, Zaha and Bolasie and United set out for a possession-orientated game. Who knows what would have happened with those two chances that were whistled dead... I am biased but I would have fancied De Gea in a 1v1 versus most players at the minute.

FA Cup finals are traditionally a tight affair so I didn't expect a big scoreline by any means (unless you're Villa). Lingard's goal was a fitting end to the game I think. On the topic of Mourinho, I think United are built for the counter-attack at the moment. Martial, Lingard, Rashford all have an abundance of pace, energy and youthful enthusiasm that could be a great trio for years to come. Whether Mourinho uses these players or buys in his typical mercenaries remains to be seen.

I can't see Mourninho sticking with Lingard or possibly even Rashford. He'll get a big purse and want to spend it on "proven" international stars, he doesn't develop players

That's not entirely true. I did say they were the better side - but when you take the value of the assembled squads, you'd expect them to be. If you removed the refereeing from the equation, I have no arguments with the result. But you can't remove the refereeing from the equation because it was such a poor call. It doesn't mean Palace would have won the game: there was plenty of time left and it would have certainly changed the way the game was played, but unfortunately we will never know. My problem is that these bad decisions invariably go against the smaller clubs. I'm disappointed in Clattenburg, who I have always regarded as a good referee. We all have bad games sometimes (well I don't these days!), but yesterday was not a good time to have one. Winning the FA Cip would have meant the world to Crystal Palace, whereas it doesn't even seem to have saved Van Gaal's job. And, given the attitude of most Man Utd fans under Sir Alex, the FA Cup was small beer.

I do believe that I can look at games objectively, but will readily admit that I detest Manchester United with every fibre of my being, but then again don't feel victimised, because I feel exactly the same about T*tt*nh*m H*tsp*r, P*t*rb*r**gh United and the dirty Scummers on the south coast.

Now that that is out of the way (as you say) my main point in all this is that I don't like seeing the outcome of games affected by poor officiating - and there is a strong argument that this one was.

Re: The FA Cup Final

United win, 90.5% of the world mourn (BBC figures claim 9.5% of the world follow ManU). Us reds wouldn't have it any other way lol.
But, refs constantly screw up - even good refs. All Utd fans groaned when Clattenburg was announced as FA Cup final ref, he has done us over a few times in the past too.

As for yesterday's game, the decision to stop play re Wickham was scandalous, let's be honest here - it would probably have been a goal. But, no-one has mentioned Delaney's 'tackle' on Rashford 5 minutes in when the ref gave a corner. Delaney never got the ball, he got the man - one of those ''if it happened in the centre circle would have been given'' moments. I thought overall Utd slightly shaded it but overall it was fairly even. Palace tried to play to their strengths but couldn't take advantage of bad performances by Rooney (MoM wtf??), Carrick, Mata and Rojo. I always lean to the more attacking team but some of my favourite sides from history were built on great D (the Italians of the 70's and 80's spring to mind).

And now to the real point that kinda negates why we're all discussing the ref - one man and 2 linesmen cannot accurately call a game. Football is desperate for technology, or at least an extra official or two. These discussions would then reduce dramatically as it would improve decision accuracy no end.

As for Clattenburg. Typical character who's performance is way poorer than the BS he talks to the right people. We all know guys like that at work right?

We have been shocking this season, from top to bottom at club, actually the only thing we have successfully done this year is commercially money is coming in but as quick goes in its coming straight out again.

But hopefully we can turn it round and looking forward to a huge change in premiership with Possible Jose vs Pep, likes of a conte chelsea, same old arsenal can't quite do it a nearly team these days, ranieri men in CL and Defending title..will spurs continue to blossom going be a cracking year
