Post by MCFCDAP on Wed 28 Oct 2015, 5:24 pm

Hey all,

anyone an FM addict like me?  Gaming has changed for me in the last 4-5 years but still buy it every year.

The Beta has come out today, is anyone buying it?  How do you play?

No. I weaned myself off it about the time I started this. There were occasions when I found daylight creeping in under the curtains after "just one more game" turned into an all-night session. It eats time. It puts you in a bad mood when towards the end of the season, after being top or top 3, inexplicably you start losing, star players get injured etc etc.

It affects you like this:

Bought the game and downloaded it last night but not had a chance to have a go.

Feedback on forums seems positive that there arent any game breakers in the Beta release so looking good.

I'll start a game as City over the weekend, and get bored as there is nothing to build or grow and probably begin a career in the lower leagues, maybe with a rubbish team like Northampton Razz

What a wuss.

I used to start as unemployed and build a team like Havant & Waterlooville or something. "Start a game as City". Wow, what a challenge.

When I used to play, if I managed to rake about £2k together to sign a player it was a lot. Normal message for me was "So-and-so has no intention of joining Farsley Celtic" or whoever I managed that year.

I once got Maidenhead United to the Premier Division but then something happened and my game got corrupted and I lost the save. I was bloody furious.

I have to say that FM is probably the cleverest game I have ever played. It won't let you get away with doing stupid stuff.

I once took control of Man Utd and decided I was going to let all their top players go on free transfers. Neville, Beckham, Ferdinand, Scholes - you name him, he was on the list. Twisted Evil

However, my fiendish plan was folied by the board who blocked every single one and I got sacked within 24 hours. Mad

Haha I only start with City to have a look at the game and get used to anything new, any serious games begin in the lower leagues Smile

Serious FM addict here. Buy it every year and I can't seem to stop sinking at least 1000 hours into it. I wonder what I could have done with all that time...

EDIT - That said! I hugely enjoy the tactical side of the game and I like to find out interesting tidbits about the game each year! Very big on analysis and how to make strategies better and whatnot. I think I've spent a quarter of those 1000 hours just sitting at the screen figuring out things like tactics, training, fixture runs, staff changes, etc and so forth.

I cant say im as much of an addict as I was probably between 07-2011 but i buy it every year and go through spells where I will play it every night until I realise I need sleep, and then through spells lile now where I don't remember the last time I actually opened the game.

I'd say a lot has to do with the real life City takeover, it makes managing City boring and I struggle sometimes just to get involved in a team, the last great save I had was in 2011 as Norwich where I survived 2 relegations from the Premier League to in the end turning them into a UEFA Cup team

You should start unemployed and get a job in the Conference North or something. You will find yourself scrabbling around in the free transfer pool and find a few gems, but then realise you can't afford their wages, or if you can get:

"Player X has no intention of signing for Altrincham" and stuff like that.

I don't play it at all these days, but I know my son steered Havant & Waterlooville into the Champions League.

I usually do a save where I start unemployed. It's a simple game to play but incredibly hard to master as it requires so much micro management if you want to do everything yourself.
