Time Zones

Post by GBDawg1 on Fri 21 Jun 2013, 9:13 am

If anyone is in any doubt about time zones (and I know some of you do get confused about them), then please look at the owners' list, which not surprisingly, can be found in the "Standings and Owners' List" section of the site.

Everyone's time zone is shown on here in relation to the UK. So, if someone who is "UK -6" is playing a "UK +2" opponent, that means there is a difference of 8 hours. 7 am in the UK +2 time zone would be 11 pm the previous day in the -6 one.

So, if you are in any doubt about it, refer to the the owners' list which will tell you everything you need to know.

Another point is that it is better to refer to "UK time" rather than "GMT". The reason for this is that the UK is on GMT +1 in the summer months when daylight saving kicks in. It reverts to "GMT" at the end of October (usually the last weekend in October). Daylight saving is standardised across Europe so everyone's clocks move forward and back at the same time. However, this is not the case in North America, where there is normally a week or two's difference from when Europe change their clocks. What it usually means is that the Americans move an hour closer to European time during this period as their clocks tend to go forward earlier and back later.

Before anyone starts panicking and feeling their head might explode, I always post up when someone's clocks are changing. So sit back and relax.

Think of it in football terms Tru, with American times being 'sacks' and European times being 'short gains'.

GMT, AM, PM, UK Time & World Clock etc are for normal people Very Happy

It would be a lot easier if the world was flat.

Just a reminder to everyone:

I often see questions in the matchup threads asking what time zone someone is on. There is no need to. Their time zones in relation to the UK time zone is shown in the owners' list. So you can work it out from there.

Remember to make adjustments for when daylight saving comes in, as America tends to put their clocks forward earlier than in Europe, and back later.

Example: the USA is already on summer time now, whereas Europe doesn't move forward until the end of March.

Reminder:

When arranging games, particularly if you are not familiar with certain opponents, please remember to check the owners' list for time zones.

I know "European times" means just that, but not everyone is on UK time and compromises need to be made at times.
